Though I’ve never studied architecture or usually take notice of such things, I know something cool when I see it, like this old Greyhound station on main street in Jackson, Tennessee. From what I could gather from locals, it’s one of two in the country to have retained its original art deco design and is still fully operating. A few calls around town and random Internet browsing place that other at anyone’s guess. When I strolled over to check this one out, along with the design it didn’t seem like much else had changed.

Though you can buy fares online or by phone, a line snaked from the ticket booth with folks who preferred to make their purchases face-to-face. A bus pulled in and a few fanning women with coifed hair and high heels clicked across the tile floor to refresh themselves before reaching their final destination. Outside, next to a pay phone, three old men sat on a bench intermittently filling silence with stories they’d likely told before, seemingly content watching time pass right by.

Thanks for the tip!

I'm actually (randomly) headed there this weekend, so I'll definitely swing by to see.

P.S. Any other Jackson 'must sees'?

If you're there around lunchtime, the Painted Lady, 415 E. Lafayette, has great pimiento cheese. Also cool is one of the downtown galleries, Art Under a Hot Tin Roof, 114 E. Lafayette Street.
